Our mission is to bridge the gap between Mexican students in need and givers by orchestrating the collection, transportation, and deliverance of school items. We help alleviate economic distress by providing families with fully equipped backpacks in order to instill motivation for academic progression and success.
Our team was founded by the Gonzalez-Flores family from Surprise, Arizona. They have organized the donation process to reach residents located in Guaymas, Sonora with the help of the Flores-Romo Family.
Interested in providing a helping hand? From attending a distribution event to donating items, your donation to us helps our mission go a long way. We accept monetary donations as well as items that can be dropped off locally.
Process for Selecting Students
We work with volunteers and teachers/school staff to helps us select the students with the most financial need. If a student is selected by a teacher, we also make sure to include that student’s siblings. Otherwise, our volunteers travel to different areas of low income families. We collect the child’s name and grade. This information helps us pack grade appropriate school utensils. We work with the teachers in the area to get a better idea of what each grade needs.
GPA
We also work to collect small prizes for students who are excelling academically. The students are encouraged to bring their report card to the back pack event. We collect all these report cards at the beginning and at the end of the event, we announce the winners for academic excellence. They are awarded a small prize such as **. We have heard from some of the teachers we work with, that the students are motivated to work hard in their class just so that they can win an award the following year.
Assistance Throughout the Student’s Academic Career
Many of our students have been receiving our services throughout their academic career, from kindergarten to high school. We encourage all of our recipients to “pay if forward” and donate the backpack they no longer need to someone in need.
